I don’t know when I first heard the term ‘church shopping,’ but I do remember being mad about it. I couldn’t understand how people could shop around from church to church, dismissing them for various reasons. ‘We didn’t like the sermon,’ or ‘the music was just too old fashioned,’ or even ‘the sanctuary was too modern for my taste.’ I didn’t understand why they didn’t just pick one community and make it their own, understanding that no church is perfect. But, 4 months after moving to a brand new city, I suddenly find myself shopping for a church home and struggling to find my ‘perfect community.’Continue reading »
