Compassion has become the singular quality through which I understand God to be at work in the world.

Power and access is at the heart of every justice issue. So it matters greatly how we do life together in our pursuit of peace and justice.

I am being profoundly transformed by the reality that I am one with all the Universe, Mystery and Life. I can do nothing but seek authentic, loving, peace-building relationship with and among creation.

Here’s the deal: we are all broken and are in need of transformation. Trust me, I am fed up with the state of wealth disparity in this country.

We need to enter into the detox of mutuality and love and rid ourselves of the drug of powerlessness.

In the long work for justice, we can be urgent yet patient, unreasonably hopeful yet realistic, grandiose yet grounded.

Learning to see these obstacles and inequities can feel tedious and be inconvenient for those of us who benefit from and function well within the status quo. But… we must understand that we suffer from our ignorance too.

Bin Laden’s death is hardly an ending in the larger story of human justice. So, before we dance in the streets, chant national slogans, and bring back the freedom fries, let us consider the path that has brought us here.

I’m not what is special about fasting. God is at work in all acts of love and healthy relationship. God’s love is made incarnate in every act of service and solidarity. That’s what’s special about fasting.

Story after story can be found of immigrants and refugees who simply want to live peacefully, work hard and raise their family in safety but cannot because of inadequate and unjust systems.
